Maybe you've had someone in your life who went through breast cancer. Maybe you've seen characters go through breast cancer treatment on TV shows or maybe you've had it yourself.  But there’s so much that a person may not really understand about breast cancer—despite reading everything available on medical websites and hearing from doctors—about what it's actually like to navigate life with breast cancer. Actually receiving that diagnosis and undergoing treatment shines a big spotlight on never-considered questions, never-received answers, and never-imagined experiences. Unless you're a breast cancer survivor yourself, there are nuances of the illness that you simply can't prepare for.
Life after breast cancer means returning to some familiar things and also making some new choices. The song says "It ain't over 'til it's over," but when you or your loved one had breast cancer, you discover that it's not even over when it's over. From the relationship with people around to eating habits and exercise, breast cancer change lives in ways that last well after treatment ends.
In this week's podcast episode, Marni will be speaking with Kathryn Elliot, a mom, and a breast cancer warrior.
Kathryn has always been fit, active and healthy. That is why it came as a shock to her when she was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer around the same time last year. She discovered the lump herself as she was getting ready for work. Her normal life turned upside down as she went through 15 appointments, numerous scans, a procedure to have a port put into her arm and started an intense 6-month program of 16 rounds of chemotherapy. Her approach specifically combines conventional medicine with alternative therapies, which she believe has kept her body and mind clear, strong, positive and healthy during the treatment process.
Join us in this episode as Kathryn walks us through her courageous fight with breast cancer.
Whether you're going through breast cancer firsthand, or you know and love someone who is, the more you know about it, the better you can show up for yourself or another individual who could use support.
