Dementia is a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60-80% of dementia cases and today more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease.  Alzheimer’s kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined, with deaths from Alzheimer’s increasing 145% since the year 2000.  While Alzheimer’s is a familiar term,  more than 80% of Americans know little about or are not familiar with mild cognitive impairment, which can be an early stage of Alzheimer’s.  Early intervention is critical so it is important that we learn how to recognize signs and symptoms that we should bring to our doctor’s attention.

This morning we will talk with Dr. Drake and learn about the risk factors for Alzheimer’s, along with diagnosis and treatment.
