Growing up, I lived for the middle of the month as I knew it was when my magazines were coming in. Hemmings, HOT ROD, Car & Driver, Rod & Custom - you name it, and I had a subscription. As a kid I would flip through the pages and memorize every spec and statistic, and then, once the knowledge had been sucked in like a sponge, I’d go back through and study the photographs for days. Chargers, Mustangs, Porsche 911s and Ferrari’s all adorned my school lockers when I was a kid, and the photographs were so perfect that they told an entire story in one shot.

Capturing these iconic images doesn’t just happen though. For photographers it takes years of experience, craft refinement and patience, and even then, there are no guarantees. But then you meet someone like Michael Alan Ross, see his photos and then begin to understand how his visions help him become one of the best automotive photographers in the business.

This week on the Hemmings Hot Rod BBQ podcast, Michael joins us to talk about this career, and how there is so much more to taking that perfect photo then most will ever understand.
