There’s something about floating down the interstate in a 5,000-pound two-door coupe that makes your problems disappear. Maybe it’s the 10-foot-long hood, or the pillowtop seats that cradle your posterior in supreme comfort. Or maybe it’s the feeling of being the absolute king of the road, that is until a semi-truck comes by.

The great American land yachts produced from mid-1950s until the mid-1990s had a spectacular run. Their style and comfort defined decades, while their open road smoothness seemed like something that was invented by the automotive Gods. On this week’s Hemmings Hot Rod BBQ podcast, Mike Musto, along with Hemmings own Mike Austin and Rob Einaudi (all former yacht owners) sit down to discuss America’s love affair with some of the largest cars ever produced.
