Would you believe that Jon Chase, the Art Director over at Hoonigan, started his career at an industrial rubber company? Some of the best and most notable people in the automotive world started in careers that had nothing to do with automobiles. But then things changed. After landing a job as a junior designer for Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker at his company Famous Stars and Straps, he then went onto work at Maisto (that really cool company that makes diecast cars) to make more cool stuff, while at the same time starting his own clothing company called DSTROYR. The world of drifting was next where Jon designed product for the likes of Chris Forsberg and Vaughn Gittin Jr. After that he met Brian Scotto from Hoonigan, and the rest, at least for now anyway, is history (and of course we’re simplifying that).

This week on the Hemmings Hot Rod BBQ we’d like to welcome Jon Chase as he takes us through his journey of art and design. We’ve also pulled a beautiful 1957 Chevrolet Nomad resto-mod from our classified for the simple reason that we thought Jon would dig it. Enjoy!
