I met Scotty Birdsall years ago after filming Old Smokey, his diesel powered and Pikes Peak record setting, 1949 Ford pickup - a truck that must be seen to be believed.

Scotty Birdsall of Chuckles Garage in Santa Rosa, California was our 2^nd guest ever on the Hemmings Hot Rod BBQ podcast, and as it’s been well over a year since we’ve had him on, we decided to check in with him and see what’s been happening. Turns out, A LOT. For instance, in addition to churning out some of the coolest hot rods around, he’s since opened Resolute Motorsports, a company that specializes in overlanding air-cooled Porsche 911s. We then spoke about his 2022 Pikes Peak effort which sees him out from behind the wheel of Old Smokey, and into the seat of a Le Mans Prototype LMP1 car. His land speed racer Toyota mini-truck effort came next, along with WOOSHIE-BOOSHIES, the two words that best describe the modern-day turbo charger.
