Happy February! Time for overpriced candy, cheesy romantic ads, and a serious talk about modern love magic. Specifically, why consent needs to be a part of it. (And of course, this is not to say that magic which seeks to circumvent or overwhelm free will does not exist or does not work. This is certainly a thing that exists. It’s well-established in quite a few old-world traditions like strega and curandero, among others, and even modern-day witchcraft books talk about persuasion and glamour and command magic. And all this is fine. I just want to be clear that I take personal issue when free will is undermined or ignored in love magic, specifically.)
