Fake News!
There probably isn’t one individual in the modern world who hasn’t heard or mimicked, or both, this latest meme of social culture.
Where it started is another story entirely, and ironically if you were to ask most people who have ever so willfully adopted its addition to the ever growing “vocabulary” of mass society, they probably couldn’t tell you.
I have always found it both intriguing and disturbing to watch how easy it is for individuals (and I’m going to stress the term “individual” throughout this post to make a point) to so blindly pick up on the phraseology of the moment. It was the great philosopher and writer Oscar Wilde who said the following…
Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.
This quote was penned by Wilde as part of his 1897 (published in 1905) volume entitled De Profundis, in which he precedes this observation by the following…
It is tragic how few people ever ‘possess their souls’ before they die. ‘Nothing is more rare in any man,’ says Emerson, ‘than an act of his own.’ It is quite true.
Clearly, mimicry, or the tendency to opt to copy rather than create is a human flaw that has risen throughout the ages. But what is this all about and what are the ramifications for those who so easily adopt behavioral traits without questioning their basis or merit? What is it about the “individual” (The “I”) that wants so desperately to be the “We?”
Jon Rappoport – a brilliant writer and investigative journalist whom I’ve quoted before just posted a most telling explanation as to why this may be so and moreover, who is behind it.
In his latest essay, The Free Individual vs. the Deep State, Rappoport illuminates the fact that the individual is the enemy of the control system. The only way to keep systems as nice, neat little (or big) units of control is to exploit the individual’s tribal tendencies – that which embodies a pattern of common culture and dialect. And yes words are a tried and true method to keep the spell going!
Rappoport says…
The people who run society are engaged in bringing systems and structures into interlocking alignment, in order to create larger and larger machines of control.
I keep returning to this territory, because the whole thrust of modern civilization is making the individual extinct.
Powerless, badly educated, adrift in technology, viewed as a unit tied to a massive collective—this is the picture of the individual.
Sad as it is, this is the course of most in modern society – an example of the ever dwindling individual and the exploitation of the “we.”
Now back to the Fake News…
Ironically, Jon Rappoport’s blog is called No More Fake News – a portal that launched many years before the latest meme of “Fake News” was to be rolled out. NMFN is aimed at exposing the darkness of the control system and the exploitation of the masses through the many dimensions of propaganda; an effective and oh-so coercive mechanism to ensure that the individual eventually becomes extinct.
