Hole In One Golf Podcast - #golfingtrails #4 - Awapuni Links, Poverty Bay, Gisborne, New Zealand - a podcast by Jack Bull
from 2020-11-09T09:22:47
In this mini episode, I take a road trip along the pacific coast highway in the North Island and head across the East Cape of New Zealand, down to Poverty Bay in Gisborne. This was the place where Captain Cook first made landfall in 1769 and he would first come into contact with the local Maori people. The Golf Course is now known as Awapuni Links and I find out that links golf in New Zealand isn't like it is back in the UK! I also learn about the course designer, known as CH Redhead, apparently he is originally from Ireland and he helped shape many of New Zealand's golf courses after emigrating to New Zealand aged 50 but I'm keen to find out more about this character.
