On this week's episode of the Homespun Yak Podcast, Nic and Kyle are joined by longtime friend and 3rd time guest Bennie Berman!
Was Joe Rogan violently high when he came up with the idea for his brand new studio in Austin, Texas? Will the idea of him as a potential moderator for the upcoming Presidential debates actually come to fruition? The guys talk about some of the reasons why Joe might be the perfect candidate for such a role... Plus it's 2020 so why the f*$k not!?
Then, the topic of the new and widely discussed film "Cuties" on Netflix is brought up as it is currently the 7th most popular movie in the US. Bennie raises some great points on why so many people are outraged by the film's portrayal of young girls in an overtly sexualized fashion while addressing some who praise the work as "liberating" for girls who desire to break the bonds of their traditional values and norms.
Finally, after a close examination of student loan debt, tax rates, and tuition prices for colleges across the country, Bennie gives us an overview of the "Boogaloo Movement" going on in America today. Is this a far-right extremist group with ties to white nationals? Or is it a group of individuals who value Libertarian beliefs at their core and strive to protect the rights and property of those who are too weak to defend it themselves?
Reinforcing one's own beliefs and emotions about any hot button issue today can be easily achieved through the lens of social media. However there is a real danger in only associating with ideas and people that align and conform entirely with your body of beliefs. It's certainly the easiest and most comfortable path to go down, but exposing yourself to alternative points of view, new lived experiences and real life conversations with folks on the other side of the aisle may just lead to less violence, hatred and ignorance. Leave the emotions at the door and just have a dialogue instead of cancelling friends for not conforming.
