(Daniel 2:1-3, ESV) 1 In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his spirit was troubled, and his sleep left him. 2 Then the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be summoned to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king. 3 And the king said to them, "I had a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream." /// Dan. 2:1 second year. Promotion of the four Hebrews after three years (1:5; 18) agrees with the year of promotion after the dream in the “second year.” See note on 1:1. dreams. In the time of revelation, God spoke through the interpretation of dreams that he induced (cf. 2:29).

Dan. 2:2 Chaldeans. This could refer to all people native to Chaldea (1:4; 3:8), or, as here, to a special class of soothsayers who taught Chaldean culture.
