Kelly Fitzsimmons is the Founder and CEO of several technology focused companies and currently the co-founder of Custom Reality Services, a firm that tells stories and creates amazing experiences using Transformative Applied Virtual Reality.  She is also the author of “Lost in Startuplandia – Wayfinding for the Weary Entrepreneur” a book in which she details the “behind the scenes” stories of her experience as a “tech superstar” and how what she showed on the outside was often very different then what she was feeling on the inside.  Kelly is a graduate of the University of Rochester and Harvard University, where she earned her Master’s in Theological Studies.

While she didn’t realize it until she was nearly 30, Kelly was obsessed with the idea of impressing her father, himself a self-made and very successful entrepreneur.  She discovered that her hard charging, do what needed to be done and never stop pushing approach was her way of compensating for her fear that she’d one day be revealed as the crazy, stupid failure she was telling herself she was.  She began to accept and deal with the realities affecting her life, and her thinking, thanks to the help of two friends who staged an intervention of sorts and introduced Kelly to Jan Smith and the Center for Authentic Leadership.  With Jan’s help, Kelly started to turn her thinking and her life around.

Mike and Kelly cover a ton of great stuff in this episode, including her dyslexia, her inability to read until she was 20, her unique relationship with her mom, her 54 visits to the Emergency Room, personally guaranteeing $5 Million in debt, finding her truth tellers and, ultimately, what she’s learned from her experiences and how her lessons can help others.  She gets very real about her life.  You’re definitely in for a treat.
