Happy Wine Wednesday! Journalist and friend of the pod Abbey White joins us this week to discuss The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. We had a lot of thoughts about the show. In fact, we had so many thoughts that this will be a two-part discussion. We kick things off with our overall thoughts, including our love for the slice of life moments and the amazing chemistry between Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. That said, the show left us wanting way more nuance on the complicated subjects it explored.
We then discuss the complicated legacy of Captain America and explore the shortcomings of Steve Rogers as a friend to Sam, Bucky, and Sharon. We also discuss someone else who once held the Captain America title (in the comics) - Isaiah Bradley. We unpack Isaiah's statement to Sam that no self respecting Black man would ever want to be Captain America and Sam's decision to take on the title. The first half of the discussion closes with our thoughts on whether the writers did a good job of portraying how complicated and heavy a choice it was for Sam to become Captain America.
