IEA Communications & Marketing Assistant, Kieran Neild-Ali, sat down with IEA Head of Political Economy Dr Kristian Niemietz to discuss his latest paper 'Left turn ahead' which includes polling that suggests younger people hold negative attitudes towards capitalism and favour socialist alternatives.

Kieran asked Kristian whether holding negative views towards capitalism was justified in the current climate, with young people being excluded from home ownership, jobs and good pay. Kristian argued that socialist solutions, which have high approval amongst young people, would do more harm than good. Instead, proponents of the free market must encourage radical policy solutions, like reforming planning, to end the housing crisis and win back the youth from socialism.
