“It is not for kings, Lemuel—

it is not for kings to drink wine,

not for rulers to crave beer,

lest they drink and forget what has been decreed,

and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.”

―Proverbs 31:4-5

Alcohol is abundantly available in the US and can easily be abused. In other parts of the world, driving under the influence (DUI) is against that law, but these laws are not strictly enforced. This chapter reminds immigrants of the dangers of DUI and admonishes them to avoid it.

Since drinking alcohol is socially accepted, it is the drug of choice for most people. Therefore, many people are addicted to alcohol and seldom seek help. If you are trapped by alcohol, help is available, and you can regain your freedom.

There are many 12-step programs and alcohol recovery groups run by churches and non-profit organizations across all the fifty states. Alcoholics Anonymous is a good resource for you if you are having trouble with alcohol; you can search and locate groups that are located within your community and other resources that will help you on your recovery journey.

We can debate all day whether it is a good idea to drink or not to drink, but will agree that people can become enslaved and their lives ruined by alcohol.
