The first coming of Jesus Christ served to bring division as each individual responds to His person and work. Those who believe in Him are called upon to be His witnesses. In so doing boldness is required as there were and are varying degrees of attitudes and responses by those who disbelieve. The intimidation is real and threatening but believers must nonetheless be faithful in their witness and stewardship of the Gospel. Divisions occur in the relationships of life among family, friends, co-workers, and others as a result of the testimony of believers and the rejection by the unbeliever. A healthy and appropriate fear of the Lord will serve to overcome the fear of man and human nature that at times seeks the approval of man which in this context is a denial of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Believers must be ready and willing to tell others and let no person silence them. Jesus called for a total life commitment of those who are truly His followers and greater love for Him than anyone or anything in, and of, this world. So too is this an important part of the message of Christmas and reason for the season.
