Brad Green’s route to football stardom was a unique one – from captaining Australia as an under-age cricketer to an intense one-on-one interview with Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson. However, the pull of AFL proved irresistible and the Tasmanian phenom pushed those other sporting dreams aside when the Melbourne Demons took him with the 19th pick in the 1999 draft. After a bumper rookie season, he played in the only grand final of his career when the Melbourne Demons lost to a near invincible Essendon Bombers team. He would go onto captain the club and play under some colourful coaches at the Demons, but that would be his only shot at the ultimate glory. His personal story is also an inspirational one, having lost his late ex-wife Anna Green in tragic circumstances.
