High-flying former Melbourne Demons goalkicker Russell Robertson on his one-in-a-million rise to AFL stardom, which began on The Footy Show’s “Almost Footy Legends”. Robertson joins Shane Crawford and Nick Quinn on another edition of Inside 50. He recalls walking into the Melbourne Demons’ locker room for the first time and being awe-inspired by Garry Lyon, whose “brutal” treatment helped forge him as a player. The retired champion talks about how Melbourne Demons went from “soulless” nomads to arguably the most tightly-knit group of former players in recent AFL history. Robertson opens up on what an elusive Dees premiership would mean to the past players, and how it can galvanise the club going forward. Plus, singing Grease on stage with Olivia Newton-John, booking gigs as a musician, and the “adapt or die” experience of working as a tradie during the COVID pandemic. ------- For our Victorian listeners, make sure you are listening for our code word each week!
