Jay Sugarman, Chairman and CEO of iStar (NYSE: STAR) and Safehold (NYSE: SAFE), is on a mission to unlock the value of the ground beneath our feet. In 2017, Jay launched Safehold to modernize the ground lease business and do for buildings what net lease did for commercial real estate. His career has flourished with a contrarian view that gave him control of undervalued assets, from bowling alleys to a Major League Soccer Team, the Philadelphia Union, he now owns with fellow New Yorker Kevin Durant.
