The buzz: In a land far, far away. The beauty of IoT is doing new things with information from sensors that are nearly ubiquitous – in cars, homes, factories, and even remote locations like mines and oil rigs. But ingesting and analyzing this information presents a huge challenge. For example, when a sensor detects an oil rig equipment failure, the rig operator cannot wait for data to synchronize with a remote cloud service. We’ll explore the challenges and opportunities of gathering data from distant sources – “the Edge” – and harnessing it into localized and cloud-based systems. The experts speak. Bridget Karlin, Intel: “Imagination is more important than knowledge” (Albert Einstein). Lalit Canaran, SAP: “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying” (Michael Jordan). Ira Berk, SAP: “When a workman knows the use of his tools, he can make a door as well as a window” (George Eliot).
