In the first six months of this year, 11 journalists have been killed in Mexico, overtaking last year’s total in an already dangerous country for the press. The vast majority of attacks on the journalists in the country go unsolved, with investigation efforts hampered by a dismissive government and insufficient resources. The weak response of the government ensures that the killings can continue with impunity. These conditions stifle press freedom and silence journalistic voices doing valuable work.

IPI contributor Alex Klint speaks to Marcela Turati, co-founder of Periodistas de a Pie, and Témoris Grecko, an independent journalist, author, and documentary filmmaker, to discuss the rise in violence and possible futures for independent journalism in Mexico.
