Originally trained as a lawyer, and currently practising as a registered psychologist, Emily Knowles has a deep interest and investment at the intersection of these two fields. Lawyer wellbeing, and the issue of wellbeing amongst the profession more generally, is a cause to which she is deeply committed. After spending time in her early career clerking in both criminal and civil jurisdictions, she worked as a Judge's Associate in the Supreme Court before discovering and deciding that while her head was in the law, her heart was very much aligned with the human-side of the job. In time she finessed that passion to support the human at work : pursuing specialism in Organisational Psychology. She now devotes a considerable amount of her professional time and effort supporting an occupational approach towards wellbeing, amongst other solutions in the world of work. Her areas of subject matter expertise include wellbeing, leadership, leader wellbeing, individual differences (eg values and personality), culture and performance. Solutions are sometimes 'wellbeing specific', and other times the wellbeing lens is more embedded and integrated into other leadership/performance/culture work.

Chapter I

I walk down the street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I fall in.

I am lost… I am hopeless.

It isn’t my fault.

It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter II

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I pretend I don’t see it.

I fall in again.

I can’t believe I am in this same place.

But it isn’t my fault.

It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter III

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I see it there.

I still fall in… it’s a habit… but,

my eyes are open.

I know where I am.

It is my fault.

I get out immediately.

Chapter IV

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I walk around it.

Chapter V

I walk down another street.
