Connie Edwards McGaughy believes the key to protecting animals begins with changing our attitudes and appetites about what we put on our dinner plates.

As the creator, photographer and voice behind The Carrot Underground, a popular vegan recipe and lifestyle blog, Connie shares her experience of living a plant-based and cruelty-free lifestyle over the last 4 decades. Her mission is to help others reduce their consumption of animal products by showing how easy & delicious it is to enjoy the goodness of vegan living.

A lifelong advocate and activist, Connie launched her first campaign to promote compassion toward animals at the age of eight. She has been actively involved in the rescue of domestic, exotic, and wild animals including feral goats, leopards, lions and tigers, and served as the San Diego Coordinator for the Fund for Animals. Today, she is a member of the board of the Nsefu Wildlife Conservation Foundation.

Kaleigh Rhoads graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Anthropology and Conservation. Passionate about primates, she headed to Borneo to volunteer at a wildlife rescue with orangutans immediately after graduation. After spending several years working in the US with chimpanzees and big cats who were rescued from the pet and entertainment industries, Kaleigh noticed a division in the animal rescue world between caring for “exotic” animals and “common” farmed animals. Wanting to do more to bring the plight of farmed animals to public attention and encourage people to care for all animals, Kaleigh spent a year working at PETA and learning about the many ways that animals are exploited. Kaleigh is now the Programs Manager at Charlie’s Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary in Sonoma, CA and shares the stories of these rescued animal residents with visitors from all around the world. Kaleigh is also in the process of launching an online show called Kind Safari, which will highlight sanctuaries and rescues across the globe, to teach kids about animals, and how to help them.

Kaleigh says, "I feel ready to discuss environmental issues around food and palm oil in particular in detail and my time at PETA and Charlie's Acres really prepared me to answer any questions about animal agriculture and farmed animals. I would also love to be able to talk about my new show Kind Safari. It was really inspired by the many adjustments we've all had to make during the pandemic and the more attention we can get for the show, the more attention we can bring to the sanctuaries we're partnering with. We plan to launch our first episode on September 20, which will feature interviews with the care staff at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Uganda."
