Larry Laverty was given a small camera for Christmas when he was five
years old. A few years later his budding love of animals led him to join
the Sierra Club and the Audubon Society. Then came the distractions of
education, competitive sports, and a 30-year acting career inside and
outside of Hollywood. Along the way, he never lost sight of the many
challenges that animals, wild and domestic, face in a world dominated by
humans. In 2013, he heard the cry of the elephants, taking notice of the
deadly ivory trade in Africa and the widespread abuse of captive elephants
in Asia. Through his longtime abilities in photography and writing, he
became a widely known voice for elephants, spreading the word of
their magic and their challenges. In the summer of 2019, he published his
first book on elephants, Power and Majesty, about Africa's elephants. And
by 2023 will be publishing his second book, this on Asia's elephants. Californiawww.larrylavertywildlife.com
