This week we’re turning our attention back to salmon.  It’s been a very tough year to say the least, not helped by the weather conditions, and a dramatic fall-off in the numbers of returning salmon, so will the grilse run give us hope for what’s left of the summer or are we just clutching at straws?

Conor Arnold is a guide and casting instructor on the Blackwater and he paints a stark picture of this season in sobering terms.

However, he’s also trying to do something about it and he explains what he hopes to gain from meeting politicians and ministers and why he’s not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

Plus he gives some insights from what can be learned in Denmark and Sweden who have been pro-active and helped increase salmon numbers there.
