This exceptional book is composed of a series of transformational and deeply inspiring true stories. It was written, edited, and assembled by a group of men who have learned from their pasts and have become laser focused on building their futures with brilliant hope, unshakeable faith, and great determination.

“We are all sinners, but some of us got caught.” That was the first sentence out of my mouth when I had the privilege of being invited as one of the guest speakers during an EQUIP graduation ceremony of 150 inmates at the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) in Soledad, California. When my dear friend, Roger Nielsen (a true servant leader who had experienced a life transformation while in prison), informed me about this opportunity, I was both excited and nervous at the same time. I really didn’t know what to expect, how to connect with the inmates, or even where to start; I just wanted to be able to serve and add value to the lives I would encounter.

This was my first experience speaking at a prison, but for sure, it was not going to be the last. I was impressed by the energy, passion, and excitement of these men. When they were worshiping before the ceremony, they were passionately singing, and for a moment, I thought I was in heaven. I learned very quickly that if you can be happy where you are, then you can transform and impact the world for bigger and be inspired by these men—all of whom reside within a prison and have the heart to share with the world the lessons they have learned from their poor choices, wrongdoings, and illegal activities.

When I was leaving the prison, I remember telling my family that even though I have attended hundreds of seminars, leadership events, and workshops, I felt that this was hands down one of my best experiences in life. It was interesting that my wife immediately reminded me that this was God’s plan, and the reason it was so fruitful is that He had planned it way in advance. I am so grateful to God and thankful to my friends Roger Nielsen, Richard Mireles, and Ted Gray for allowing me to be a small part of this amazing journey. I am certain this book will be life changing. It is my belief that it will impact generations of people—from the youth to the elderly—who may be dealing with the challenges of drug addiction, crime, gangs, or any other obstacle that one may happen to face.
