In episode 18 of Jet Blast Lee, Andy, and I were joined by Lori McGee who is a Partner at Jetstream Aviation Law to talk about the importance of knowing who we are as Part 91 Operators. There have been volumes of article and podcasts published on what constitute an operator in the eyes of the FAA, IRS, and other regulatory bodies. It seems that many in our industry still do not get the impact this can have on everyone involved from the pilots to the owners when you get it wrong. In other instances, there are those who think they know what all of the rules are currently, but have missed a recent change somehow. Once the decision to own the aircraft and operate it under Part 91 has been made, a simple solution that doesn't impede the operation and reduces the risk as much as possible should be the goal of all involved. Lori was able to shed a critical light on some key strategies and resources that you should consider employing when setting up and refining your operational structure. Lori also shared her firm's involvement and support of Women in Corporate Aviation as well as a really cool organization called the Food From the Bar challenge.
