Joe Stewart is executive director of the NC FreeEnterprise Foundation, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that conducts research and analysis on candidates, campaigns, voter attitudes, and other factors impacting North Carolina's political landscape. Before joining NCFEF, Stewart served as assistant secretary of the N.C. Department of Public Safety and chief deputy to the state treasurer. He also was ranked the 48th most effective lobbyist (working on behalf of the insurance industry) in 2008 by the N.C. Center for Public Policy Research.
