Troy Kickler is founding director of the North Carolina History Project and Editor of NorthCarolinahistory.org. He holds a master’s degree in social studies education from North Carolina A&T State University and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Tennessee. His dissertation was "Black Children and Northern Missionaries, Southern Conservatives, Freedmen’s Bureau Agents, and Freedmen in Reconstruction Tennessee." He has taught at the University of Tennessee, Barton College, and North Carolina State University. In this speech, Kickler discusses his new book, "The King’s Troublemakers: Edenton’s Role in Creating a Nation and State."
