Mark 1:35-39

35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”

38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” 39 So he travelled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

Jesus knew the balance of rest and work. And we observe that He lived each day with the right priorities in place. He doesn't start each day with work but with rest - spiritual rest -  in prayer - alone with the Father. He rested but was never lazy; He worked but was never busy. God is not a God of laziness nor of busyness. He is the God of Purpose and Discipline. Never mistake busy with purpose. We can be busy but not productive. We can spend time, resources or energy but to no avail of what really matters in life nor of any value in eternity nor to leave behind a good legacy. Laziness is not godly, but so is busyness.

Satan wants us lazy so we don't live our lives to the full. But Satan also wants us caught up in busyness so we don't live our lives serving the Lord. Both laziness and busyness rob us of living at all! It is only when we know our Creator and Saviour, that we discover and understand why we were created and empowered to live it.

Observe Jesus. He was neither lazy nor busy! He was purposeful. He came to accomplish His mission and He did it in the right rhythms of God's kairos. He was never in a hurry nor was he running late or overly stressed, neither cramming nor worried nor passive with apathy. He was gracefully paced and took His signal from the Father. He did not start the day with work. He started every day with rest - with prayer - with spending time with the Father. And that's what made His work effective and productive and blessed many.
