Sister Grace Crisolo graces us for today's devotional. This passage of the Scriptures reminds us to be always vigilant and spiritually equipped for battle. Let's do just that!

Ephesians 6:10-18

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

The passage we read is about spiritual warfare. In any battle, we will not win if we don’t know who our real enemy is. As Christians, we are always reminded that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the evil spirit and principalities, battling in our hearts and minds, and even around us. In the verses we read, Paul said we can defeat the enemy by first, being strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, and second, by putting on the whole armour of God. These two are essential because like in actual battle, we cannot put armour on a weak soldier. The soldier must be strong first. Before a soldier is given a gun, he goes through training first and must develop self-discipline. Being strong in the Lord is relying on his mighty power, at the same time stepping up to do the word to grow and not just sit passively.

Second, Paul said to put on the full armour of God, not just one or two or some. It is the full armour of God that will enable us to withstand firm against the tricks, schemes and deceptions of the devil. It is not we ourselves who will withstand, but it is Christ Who is Himself our armour. Our strength is found in him, as we believe in His Word and promises to us. Putting Jesus as our own armour means believing that we don’t have to give in to sin, and to rely on God and not on our own understanding. We are to meditate and reflect on God's Word at all times, feeding ourselves on the Bread of Life. We must take up the spiritual armour of Christ because our enemy is not earthly but spiritual. This reminds us of our need and dependence upon Christ as we cannot win the battle on our own, but by the power of God as we are filled with the spirit of God.

In the last verse that we read, it says we must pray all kinds of prayers at all times and we must pray for all the Lord’s people. In these very trying times, we must cover each other in prayers so that we may all and together win this battle.
