Constructing to continue history and existing buildings is an interplay of challenges and opportunities. One strategy is to persist in a museum-like preservation of the past, another strategy is to courageously continue building with history.
The roots of Studio Lotus lie in learning history and local environment. They follow an iterative and incremental methodology of innovation. Studio Lotus takes a deep contextual approach to its work and combines this with a strong focus on tactile and sensory qualities of space. Their design process looks at sustainability through multiple lenses of cultural, social and environmental impacts. There is an active engagement in integrating local skills and resources with state of the art materials and technologies. We talk to Ambrish Arora from Studio Lotus in New Delhi / India about this approach and its challenges.
