John Kenney is one of the owners of The Royal American, a dive bar located in what was once an iron forge that’s now the center of the downtown Charleston, SC independent music scene. Before creating a home base for original musicians, he was a world traveling musician himself as the guitarist for the DC rock band Rotoglow.

His journey so far has led him to becoming a father figure of one of the most inclusive music scenes in the south. From punk rock to hip-hop & country to pop, the only rule to playing the Royal American is to be original and be good.
