News Briefing: Former President and dictator Chun Doo-hwan has died. The 90-year-old, who had been suffering from chronic ailments, died at his home in Seoul’s Seodaemun district at around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday. The Presidential office said it sends condolences to the bereaved family, but also expressed regret that Chun did not reveal “the truth of history” about the brutal crackdown on the 1980 May 18 Gwangju Pro-democracy Movement. In-Depth News Analysis (Korean Politics Digest): The former military general-turned-president of South Korea, Chun Doo-hwan, leaves behind a legacy marked by a military coup that pushed him to power and the bloody clampdowns of pro-democracy protests. His failure to show contrition for his past wrongdoings, as well as unwilling to cooperate in investigations, leaves behind unresolved questions on a dark chapter in South Korea’s democratic history. Touch Base in Seoul: Musical actor Brad Little is known as a legend in the musical theater world, having played the title role of The Phantom of the Opera over 2,500 times, more than anyone else in the show’s entire history. Now living in Seoul, he still performs, but he is also involved in musical theater education for young children with ‘Brad Little’s Star Academy’. He joins us in the studio to tell us about his story.
