An atandan li jwenn solisyon ak pwoblèm sa Gabriel pèdi 3 lane nan pakou akademik li. 3 lane say o te difisil anpil pou li. Apresa bagay yo te reprann plas yo piti piti e Gabriel fini lekòl klasik li e jodia li ap fè 2 etid nan 2 fakilte diferan. Li fè konnen ke maladi li rann li pi detèmine e motive ke avan.

After Nathalie Sauveur, Koze Avè m sits down with Gabriel Alandin who, like Nathalie, is affected by blindness. Gabriel became blind at the age of 17. According to Gabriel’s mother, medical negligence is in part to be blamed for her son’s condition. She recalled that at birth, amniotic fluid got into his eyes and this was never addressed by doctors.

When he became blind, one of Gabriel’s main concerns was the social stigma associated with blindness especially in a society where very few are educated on how to accommodate visually impaired individuals; this caused him to withdraw from many social gatherings. Because of his condition, Gabriel’s academic performance took a nosedive which caused him to drop out of school for three years and his family was deeply affected. After these 3 years, he learns about SHAA, which is an organization that works with visually impaired individuals in Haiti. At SHAA, Gabriel learned braille and computer science, experienced inclusiveness and was equipped with the necessary tools to complete his education. When asked how his disability has changed his life, Gabriel confirms that he is now more determined ever. He reminds one to not express pity on the visually impaired individual for on the flip side of their disability, they are removed from the concept of night and day and therefore know no boundaries.
