Sparky Lyle was one of the greatest relief pitchers in baseball history. In 16 years in the big leagues, the 1977 American League Cy Young Award winner made 899 appearances, all out of the bullpen, saved 238 games and had a career ERA of 2.88. He spent parts of three seasons with the Phillies, including 1980 when they won the World Series. After his playing days, he spent 15 years as the manager of the Somerset Patriots, then of the independent Atlantic League.

In Episode #99 of “1-on-1 with Matt Leon,” Matt catches up with Lyle to look back on his life in baseball, talk about his time with the Phillies and much, much more.
