Scriptures (All NKJV)

- John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

- 1 John 4:9-10 -  In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

- John 14:21-24 - He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

- Luke 6:46-49 - “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

- John 15:13 - Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

- Hebrews 5:8 - though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.

- Matthew 6:33 - But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Message Points (3 Truths About Loving and Obeying Jesus)

1. Loving and obeying Jesus is voluntary, but never optional

2. Loving and obeying Jesus deepens our relationship with God

3. Loving and obeying Jesus is foundational to Kingdom life

Love - (Gk) Agapao - A love not focused on what it can get, but on what it can give

Obey - (Gk) (Collective) - Listening intently to a command, vigorously protecting what's been said, and thoroughly carrying it out to completion.

Excerpt from Following Jesus:“The writers of the New Testament considered being a servant and follower of Jesus to be their highest and most cherished honor. In their minds, it was inconceivable to claim to love Jesus without diligently obeying Him.” (Pg. 23)
