Scriptures (All NKJV)

- Ephesians 6:10-18 - Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

- Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) - But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

- Romans 10:17 (NKJV) - So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

- 2 Corinthians 4:13 (NKJV) - And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak,

- Matthew 12:34 (NKJV) - Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

- Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) - This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[a] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

- Ephesians 5:18-20 (NKJV) - And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

- James 2:26 (NKJV) - For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

- Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV) - And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

- Mark 2:5 (NKJV) - When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”

Message Points

The shield of faith is to protect you from the fiery darts of the wicked one. These arrows are the words, accusations, and lies of the enemy shot at you to cause your world to become a raging inferno of fear, worry, anxiety, anger, doubt, and self-will.

There were two different types of Roman shields

Show Shield (Used in parades and ceremonies)Battle Shield (Like a door to fully cover a solider from top to bottom in battle)
The shield of faith is a battle shield. It is not for ceremony or show, it is a full covering to protect you from the attack of the enemy.

The Roman Shield

Thin piece of metal wrapped in layers of animal skin so that it was both light and durableOiled daily so that it was not brittle and would not crack in battle when it was needed the mostSoaked in water so that it was resistant to flaming and exploding arrows shot by the enemyThis is a picture for us of the “Shield Of Faith” which is to be strong and durable, easily used, and soaked in the oil of the Holy Spirit and the water of God’s Word so that it is resistant to the enemies “fiery darts”

WHAT IS FAITH?

1.FAITH IS BELIEVING

Faith = The Greek word “Pistis” which is a conviction of truth. It is confidence, trust, belief, reliance, and persuasion. From a biblical NT sense, it is a divine persuasion by which the Holy Spirit convinces us of God’s reality as the creator and originator of all things and Jesus as the Messiah through which salvation comes. This conviction and divine persuasion is more than just belief; it is conviction to the point of action.

Belief and conviction in Gods reality through the word of God is the foundation of faith and the “Shield of Faith”.

2. FAITH IS SPEAKING

Meditate means to mutter under your breath, to chew on God’s Word. It means to “chew the cud” which is a word picture of bringing God’s word back to mind to chew on it. New age meditation is to clear the mind, but Biblical mediation is to fill the mind as one chews on and mutters God’s Word.
Meditating on God’s word is how our “Shield of faith” is oiled with the Holy Spirit and soaked in God’s Word to prepare it for battle.

3. FAITH IS DOING

Faith is a culmination of BELIEVING, SPEAKING, & LIVING according to God’s Word. This is how we take up the shield of faith.

4. FATIH IS CONNECTING

Our shield of faith is strengthened when it is connected to other believers.
