Elijah was and is regarded by many as the greatest prophet of the Old Testament. Yet as mighty as his ministry was, Elijah’s career would eventually come to a close. In 1 Kings 19 the Lord gave Elijah specific instructions for his next assignment—“You shall anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat as prophet in your place.” Elisha was handpicked by Elijah to be his successor to the prophetic ministry. In this message, we are going to study the calling of Elisha and how he responded with radical, immediate and complete obedience to the Lord.
