The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine says we are in the middle of an acute hospital access crisis, which is placing patients at risk. Reports of ambulances parked outside hospitals for hours, unable to transfer patients into over-flowing emergency departments and wards, are adding to concerns that Australia’s health system is not ready to cope with winter, let alone an outbreak of COVID. But not everyone agrees that there is a problem, or if there is, what is causing it.
