Jesus said, "Let him who seeks continue seeking until he
finds. When he finds, he will become troubled. When he becomes
troubled, he will be astonished, and he will rule over the All." - Gospel of Thomas

The Gospel of Thomas is often considered part of the genre known as "sayings gospels" and is distinct from the narrative structure of the canonical gospels. It consists primarily of 114 sayings attributed to Jesus, without a clear narrative framework or a traditional account of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. Some scholars propose that the Gospel of Thomas reflects an earlier, more primitive form of Christian tradition, possibly closer to the teachings of Jesus himself.

The sayings in the Gospel of Thomas are often presented in a cryptic and poetic fashion, and they cover a wide range of topics, including spiritual insight, ethical conduct, and the nature of the divine. Unlike the canonical gospels, the Gospel of Thomas does not contain explicit doctrinal statements or narratives of Jesus' miracles and actions.

One key theme in the Gospel of Thomas is the idea of self-discovery and inner enlightenment. The sayings emphasize the importance of introspection, self-awareness, and understanding one's true nature. This aligns with a more mystical and wisdom-oriented perspective on Jesus' teachings, contrasting with the emphasis on historical events and doctrinal formulations found in the canonical gospels.

While the Gospel of Thomas and other non-canonical texts were excluded from the official Christian canon, they were not entirely lost to history. The discovery of the Nag Hammadi library in 1945, a collection of Gnostic texts including the Gospel of Thomas, provided scholars with new insights into the diversity of early Christian thought.

The Gospel of Thomas, along with other non-canonical texts, has since become a subject of study and contemplation for those interested in exploring alternative perspectives on Jesus' teachings. If you're seeking multiple perspectives with an open mind then I personally think this is a great place to start!
