After a quiet first few days of free agency, the Jets picked up their activity level over the weekend.
The team made two additions at positions of need. Veteran guard Greg Van Roten was signed from Carolina while cornerback Pierre Desir was signed shortly after being released by the Indianapolis Colts.A pattern seems to be emerging in the team's free agency approach. The Jets largely sat out the early stages of free agency, which are full of big contracts. Instead their focus has been targeting upgrades at key positions who will not sign financially prohibitive deals.
To clear out salary cap space, the Jets released cornerback Darryl Roberts. This seemed like a formality. Roberts did not live up to the contract the team gave him a year ago. The move cleared up $6 million in cap room.The Jets also added a pair of depth players in Josh Andrews and Marqui Christian.
