The big news in the NFL from Tuesday was the stunning trade of Alex Smith to Washington, a trade which has implications across the league. For starters, we can scratch Smith off the list of options for the Jets and other quarterback needy teams. Perhaps more significantly, we can now erase the pencil and write in ink that Kirk Cousins will be an option. There will be no last minute reconciliation between the player and his team. Cousins will be leaving our nation's capital. The Jets figure to be a contender for his services based on their need at quarterback and cap space.
We are mixing up the podcast schedule a little bit this week. The mailbag will happen today on Wednesday, and the Super Bowl prediction will happen on Thursday. On today's mailbag we look at whether the Jets will try hard to sign Cousins, whether they should try hard to sign Cousins, who they will pick at 6 if they address the quarterback position in free agency, whether the CBA has negatively impacted the team, whether the team should look to balance its blocking scheme, whether Muhammad Wilkerson can be traded, and which free agent wide receivers might be worth a look.
