I have no Sam Darnold for you on today's podcast. Today's show has only me, and the discussion is about depth. I offer three positions where I like the depth the Jets have.
Before we start, I do need to clarify what I mean by depth. There are very few position groups for any team in the NFL where the backups are proven, quality players. That just doesn't happen in today's NFL with limited practice time to develop fringe players and a salary cap, which makes it difficult to retain proven guys who do not start. When I talk about depth, I am partially talking about upside. At which spots do the Jets have a combination of proven players and reserves who have upside?
I understand it gets a bit subjective there since upside is generally in the eye of the beholder. I think we still genuinely know upside when we see it. A quarterback group with Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty doesn't have a whole lot of upside. A quarterback group with Sam Darnold and Teddy Bridgewater does. The positions I discuss on today's show are quarterback, wide receiver, and defensive line.
