The process of moving forward, filling out the team around the new Big Three of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Westbrook begins today as free agency opens. Certain players - Carmelo Anthony, for example - feel almost inevitable and would make some sense, but the competition for talent around the league will be fierce. So what happens at 3:01 pm PT, when the derby officially begins? Is DeMar DeRozan really an option, given the haircut he'd have to take? What about Rudy Gay, or some lesser-but-critical names? Could Otto Porter be had for the taxpayer midlevel? Would he be a good choice, given his injury history?But first, much of the analysis around the trade has centered around questions of ego. Can everyone sacrifice to the extent that's needed in order to make this work? Is this going to be a real problem? But just as importantly, let's say Westbrook is willing to shave off parts of his game to blend better with Davis and LeBron. What does that look like? Does that shrink his impact? How do the Lakers maximize the real positives Westbrook can bring while minimizing the negatives?
