Feds providing more funding for passenger rail in Georgia

The Biden administration is boosting federal funding for three planned intercity passenger rail projects in Georgia. The Federal Rail Administration has granted $1.5 million to explore linking Atlanta with Savannah, Charlotte, and Chattanooga. This is a part of the $8.2 billion in new funding for passenger rail projects announced last week. Senator Raphael Warnock stated that these new transit options would significantly benefit the state and its economy. The funding comes from the bipartisan infrastructure spending legislation passed two years ago. The Atlanta-to-Savannah route, backed by Senator Jon Ossoff, is envisioned as a high-speed rail project.
