MCHH 225: Orcas Are Attacking Small Powered Sailboats In The Strait Of Gibraltar - a podcast by Speak Up For Blue: Marine Science and Conservation
from 2020-09-29T04:00
A threatened pod of Orcas that live in the Strait of Gibraltar is attacking small powered sailboats in coordinated attacks. The attacks have been filmed and witnesses say they have lasted over an hour in some cases. The Orcas have been ramming the boats to spin them 180 degrees as well as biting the rudder on the boats. Researchers are surprised at the behaviour and wonder if the Orcas don't like the noise coming from the vessels or wonder if a similar vessel hurt one of the members of the pod. The MCHH crew discuss these orca attacks.
