The University of Michigan released its consumer sentiment survey on Friday, and, from the consumer’s point of view, things look bleak. Sentiment dipped 13.5% in early August to a reading below its April 2020 level. Economists say the decline has to do with inflation, unemployment and surging COVID cases and that vaccinated people are feeling more anxious than the unvaccinated.
