Matt Waldman's RSP Cast discusses Mike McDaniel salvaging Tua Tagovailoa's NFL career in Miami and the history of coaches and teams that successfully balance task-oriented and strategic management of talents.
This morning, I shared my NFL pre-draft scouting report of Tua Tagovailoa, which noted anticipation, accuracy, and manipulation as strengths of the Dolphins quarterback's game. These are the same things head coach Mike McDaniel noted to the media when discussing how he salvaged Tagovailoa's confidence in his play.

McDaniel is a sterling example of an offensive coach who has developed a balance between task-oriented details and strategic thinking. This is a reflection of a coach who understands this side of football to the point that he can deviate from day-to-day details and create adjustments that make a significant difference in performance. This week, I discuss the differences between task-oriented and strategic behavior in football coaching and management and celebrate the success the Dolphins are having because of McDaniel's ability to balance these two important mindsets.
