Target Audience
This activity is targeted toward all physician specialties.

Statement of Need
Clinical research is an integral component to the development of new treatments, drugs or medical drugs. Successful patient recruitment has been determined as a contributing factor to the success of clinical research studies. It has been identified that an obstacle in successful studies is the recruitment of sufficient number of patients to participate in research studies. One gap identified in this is the role that providers play in that they may be unaware of how patients can benefit from research studies or how to find applicable studies for their patients.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:
  1. Discuss the basics of clinical research including the types of research and phases of trials addressing both adult and pediatric research.
  2. Describe the importance of patient selection and characteristics in clinical research.
  3. List the limitations of clinical research.
